FieldWork

In this dance workshop Hadar Ahuvia will share movement, breathing, and sounding and performance practices she has developed over the last four years of research of ashkenazi davenen (traditional modes of Eastern European prayer chant). The first half of class will begin with a grounding in one of these practices, and then move into a long improvisational score to recordings of davenen. We’ll approach this soundscape as a text, and movement as our discursive practice, to explore how collective practice can hold space for individual expression and multiplicity. No knowledge of Jewish texts, prayers, music necessary.
